Chamber Music Programs for Youth

JUNIOR CHAMBER ARTISTS (fee based, scholarships available)

Spend an afternoon exploring chamber music literature! Pianists, string and woodwind players in grades 8-12 are invited to join JCA. Four weekend afternoons each semester, participants meet to read music in small ensembles led by Spokane Symphony musicians, who play with the students. Participants learn sight-reading survival and other basic chamber music skills. Students play for approximately 2 hours, with a snack break to get to know fellow students and Spokane Symphony musicians. We have a great student-faculty ratio, a fun and relaxed atmosphere and there is no preparation necessary! JCA participants receive complimentary tickets to Spokane Symphony Classics concerts. For more information, contact Catherine Shipley. Download a JCA/ YCP Application here.

YOUNG CHAMBER PLAYERS (fee based, scholarships available)

Join other highly motivated young musicians in an intense chamber music experience!

YCP is open to pianists, string and woodwind players in grades 9-12. Participants are arranged into chamber ensembles that meet weekly for rehearsals or coaching sessions with Spokane Symphony musicians. Students research their assigned pieces, play in master classes and concerts, have the opportunity to work with selected SSO guest artists, participate in Junior Chamber Artists, receive free tickets to SSO Classics concerts, and record a CD. For more information, contact Catherine Shipley. Download a JCA/YCP Application here.
