ECKART PREU, CONDUCTOR
BENJAMIN BEILMAN, VIOLIN

In Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto, the virtuosity of the soloist sparkle against a lyrical backdrop; an exquisite slow movement gives way to a folk-inspired finale that serves up a dazzling array of pyrotechnics. Shostakovich's studiously apolitical Ninth is thoroughly engaging, an endless comedy of musical wit. The concert will begin with Albinoni’s moving Adagio for Organ and Strings in G minor as a tribute to the late Kendall Feeney who served as Principal Keyboard of the Spokane Symphony.

The Music

Tomaso Albinoni/adapted by Remo Giazotto — Adagio in G minor for Organ and Strings
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky — Violin Concerto
Dmitri Shostakovich — Symphony No. 9 (musician's choice)

About Benjamin Beilman

"Beilman is a rare and wonderful violinist. He has a quiet singing tone that brought out the graces of the temperamental instrument that had just been placed in his hands." — The Buffalo News

"A passionate performer with a deep, rich tone..." — The New York Times

Twenty-six year old American violinist Benjamin Beilman is winning plaudits in both North America and Europe for his passionate performances and deep rich tone, which the Washington Post called "mightily impressive" and the New York Times described as "muscular with a glint of violence."
