Chinese violinist Mira Wang gives the U.S. premiere of Torsten Rasch’s “Tropoi” Violin Concerto, his dramatic and masterfully orchestrated new work. Rimsky-Korsakov’s blockbuster Scheherazade paints tales from Arabian Nights using dazzlingly color and oriental motifs inspired by Crimean folk tunes. Stokowski's lush orchestral arrangement of Bach's "Komm Susser Tod" is filled with poignant harmonies and soaring melodies. Featuring Brahamas Piano Quartet from EWU in the lobby before the concert.

This is the first of a four-concert celebration of Bach’s 333rd anniversary that includes Classics 6, 7 and 9.

Guest Artist

Mira Wang, violin

After Mira Wang's New York debut in Avery Fisher Hall with the American Symphony Orchestra in October 2001, the New York Times wrote: " Mira Wang was an astonishing soloist in the Gerhard concerto, moving with complete ease, grace and sunny tone. The piece just flowed from her. And the orchestra perked up. "

Born in China, Ms. Wang studied at Central Conservatory of China in Beijing. She was sponsored by Roman Totenberg later to further her studies at Boston University, where she graduated summa cum laude in 1992 and received the prestigious Kahn Award given to outstanding performers.

Ms. Wang has won top prizes all over the world, such as the first prize at the Geneva International Competition and the first prize in the New Zealand International Festival of Arts Lexus Violin Competition. ● Mira Wang's website
