Jeannette Wee-Yang

biography

Jeannette Wee-Yang is assistant principal violist in the Spokane Symphony, and violist in the Spokane String Quartet. She has a bachelor's from the University of British Columbia, and a Master of Music from Indiana University. Jeannette has performed with the Milwaukee Symphony, Milwaukee Chamber, Singapore Symphony and Vancouver Symphony Orchestras. She was principal violist of the Sudbury Symphony in Ontario, and assistant principal violist of the Milwaukee Ballet Orchestra. She has taught at Whitworth University and Carroll College, WI. She currently serves as vice president of the Spokane Chamber Music Association and Spokane Youth Symphony boards.

Hometown: Born in Singapore, grew up in Vancouver BC

Schools attended: Handsworth Secondary, University of British Columbia, Indiana University

I first started to play music when:  my mom taught me piano at the age of 4

Musical inspirations:  My viola teacher Gerald Stanick

Favorite Composers:  Tchaikovsky, Vaughan Williams, Brahms

Favorite works featuring my instrument:  Walton Viola Concerto, Smetena "My Life" String Quartet

Hobbies:  Staying active, Traveling, Cooking

Volunteer activities include:  Helping at children's schools

Favorite bands or performers:  Spokane String Quartet and Yo Yo Ma

Favorite things to do in Spokane:  Skiing on local mountains, biking on Centennial Trail and boating on Deer Lake.
