Upcoming June events for the Spokane Symphony and Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox

SPOKANE ELITE DANCE STUDIO: STEP in TIME

June 1 at 6pm
June 2 at 1pm and 6pm

Outside of dance education, the Spokane Elite Dance Studio is most known for their annual spring recital. Each year they create a themed production complete with costumes, sets, character roles and an “elite” entertainment experience.  This recital is free and open to the public.  DETAILS 

SPOKANE STRING QUARTET: SCHUBERT AND BEETHOVEN

June 3 at 3pm

The Spokane String Quartet closes its season with works by Franz Schubert and Ludwig van Beethoven, including an early quartet by a teenage Schubert and one of his later, famous pieces, and a quartet by Beethoven written two years before his death. The music program:

  • Franz Schubert: String Quartet in B Flat Major, D. 36
  • Franz Schubert: Quartettsatz, D. 703
  • Ludwig van Beethoven: Quartet in A Minor, Op. 132

General admission: $20; $16 for seniors (65+); $12 for students. DETAILS

MUSIC INNOVATES CONCERT

June 4 at 7:30pm

Music Innovates is a partnership program between the Spokane Symphony and the Spokane Public Schools that gives over 100 underserved students hands-on classical music instruction and coaching over the course of the school year. This concert is the culmination of many days and hours of study and practice, and takes place under the baton of Music Innovates Director and Spokane Symphony Assistant Conductor Jorge Luis Uzcategui. This concert is free and open to the public. DETAILS

JACKIE EVANCHO in CONCERT

A worldwide sensation when she was only ten years old, Jackie Evancho, now 18, has moved past the exuberant promise of a child prodigy vocalist, toward maturity as a singer and creative artist. She performs popular hits, both old and new, classical crossover Italian songs, plus her own compositions. Ticket prices are $41, $51 & $61. DETAILS

SERGIO MENDES

Sergio Mendes will perform his signature mix of bossa nova, samba and Brazilian-infused pop music in concert with his band. This Grammy Award winner has multiple hits from a career that spans five decades, including his landmark Brasil ’66 group’s “Mas Que Nada,” “The Fool on the Hill,” and the movie soundtrack for “Rio.” Tickets are $42-$75. DETAILS

SPOKANE YOUTH BALLET: “The Stone Flower” & “Cindy Rella”

June 16 at 7pm

Spokane Youth Ballet’s summer concert 2018 has a cast of over 75 local dancers plus special guest artist, Benjamin Tucker of Nevada Theatre Ballet. The performance begins with the rarely seen ballet, “The Stone Flower,” set to a score by Sergei Prokofiev. The second piece, “Cindy Rella,” is a humorous retelling of the Cinderella story, set in 1944 with a music score from that era. Tickets are Adults: $16-$23, Seniors: $14-$21, Teens: $14-$21, and Juniors: $12-$19. DETAILS

JAY OWENHOUSE MAGIC

Illusionist and escape artist, Jay Owenhouse, returns to Spokane for one night only in “Dare to Believe.” Owenhouse’s show features magic, Bengal tigers, dangerous escapes, and inspiring storytelling. He has toured the U.S., China and Japan, where his show received the “Best Touring Family Show in Asia” award. Tickets are $29, $49 and $89 (VIP). DETAILS

BUDDY GUY in CONCERT

June 22 at 7:30pm

At age 81, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, guitarist Buddy Guy, has received 7 Grammy Awards, a 2015 Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award, 37 Blues Music Awards, the Billboard Magazine Century Award for distinguished artistic achievement, a Kennedy Center Honor, and the Presidential National Medal of Arts. Rolling Stone Magazine ranked him #23 in its list of "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time." Tickets are $51, $71 & $98. DETAILS

AN EVENING with RODNEY CARRINGTON

Rodney Carrington is a multi-talented comedian, actor, singer and writer with eight major record label comedy albums, which have sold millions of copies. According to Pollstar, Rodney has been one of the top ten highest grossing touring comedians for the last ten years, and among the top five in the last several years. Tickets are: $29.50, $39.50, $49.50 & $69.50. DETAILS

The Spokane Symphony Associates (SSA) is an organization committed to supporting the Spokane Symphony Orchestra. They hold different fundraisers throughout the year, including the Upscale Sale, an “indoor garage sale” with furniture, art, housewares, books, clothing, antiques, collectibles and more. All proceeds support the orchestra and its programs. The Upscale Sale is in the former Hastings store on Spokane’s South Hill on Southeast Blvd. off 29th Avenue near Rosauers. If you have good quality items to donate, please contact Bruce at (509) 928-2515.  MORE INFO 

CANTABILE CONCERT: SOUL of AMERICA

This concert, presented by the Cantabile Chapter of the Spokane Symphony Associates, features music of American composers performed by members of the Spokane Symphony Chorale, accompanied by pianist Carolyn Jess. Selections include works by William Billings, Aaron Copland, Moses Hogan, Alice Parker, Richard Rodgers, Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, Morton Lauridsen, Gwyneth Walker, Andrea Ramsey, and more. The concert is held in downtown Spokane’s oldest church, Westminster Congregational United Church of Christ. Tickets are $15 per person, or $35 per family (2 adults and all children 17 and under), and all proceeds benefit the Spokane Symphony.  BUY TICKETS
