SYMPHONY ENSEMBLES FOR EDUCATION OR S.E.E.D. FOR SHORT
Schools have the opportunity to interact with Symphony ensembles, representing the instrument families of the orchestra, for an up-close, intimate exposure to music and the instruments. This program includes inspirational performances in elementary schools that introduce the instrument families and reinforce musical terms and concepts outlined in government mandated learning standards for music. For example, a string trio might present a program on musical form, while the percussion group would explore instruments from cultures around the world. Also, individual or pairs of musicians are also available for “play and talk” visits to classrooms.
SEED includes two back-to-back performances of about 40 minutes each for 80-100 students, but efforts will be made to accommodate larger groups if necessary. For out of area schools, videos of SEED Ensemble Performances are available. Choose from the following:
Riverside String Trio ~ Focus on musical form, styles, pitch, and emotion in music, with an introduction to the instruments.
Brass Quintet ~ Learn how brass instruments make a sound and change pitch, and see how the instruments are different.
Woodwind Quintet ~ Explore the sounds created by oboe, flute, bassoon, clarinet and French horn in this interactive program.
Men in Black 4 (Percussion) ~ Travel around the world to see and hear different rhythms from different countries. Fee of $150.00
